Interlibrary Loan Request Form

Use Interlibrary Loan (ILL) to request books, articles or media not owned by or available at RISD, Brown or the Providence Athenaeum Libraries.
Printed ILL forms are available at the Reference desk and may be turned in at the Desk when completed. The Reference Desk is located on the first floor of the Library.

Requests take from one to two weeks to arrive - please plan accordingly.

You may also recommend items for the Library collection at Suggest a Purchase.

Before requesting materials through Interlibrary Loan, please check local sources.

For Books:
Begin by searching the RISD/ATH Catalog

then select to repeat the search in Brown's Catalog

For Journal Articles:
Search E-Journals by the Journal's title to locate full text e-journals included in the Library's database subscriptions - sources such as Academic Search Premier, Art Full Text, JSTOR, Project Muse, etc.

If you'd like help, please contact the Reference Desk and ask to speak with a Librarian.

How ILL Works

RISD Library lends to and requests materials from a network of reciprocal borrowing libraries. Whenever possible, requests are initiated with libraries that do not charge fees to borrow their materials. Depending upon the request, an item may not be available free of charge. On the ILL form there is a box to indicate that if the material is not freely available, a request from a fee-based library can be made on your behalf. You will be contacted when your ILL item arrives; ILL books generally circulate for 3-4 weeks and may be renewed. To inquire about the status of an ILL Request, contact Gail Geisser, Circulation Manager, Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:00pm at 709-5904. After 4pm and on weekends, contact the Circulation Desk and ask to speak with a Circulation Senior Assistant about the status of your ILL request.
